Red scraf made in the DDR, 1978. The text on the scarf reads:”30 years Pioneerorganisation Ernst Thalmann. Districtorganisation Stollberg”. The Ernst Thalmann Pioneer Organisation, consisting of the Young Pioneers and the Thälmann Pioneers, was a youth organisation of schoolchildren aged 6 to 14. They were named after Ernst Thälmann, the former leader of the Communist Party of Germany who was executed at the Buchenwald concentration camp. The group was a subdivision of the Freie Deutsche Jugend (FDJ, Free German Youth), East Germany’s youth movement. It was founded in 1948 and broke apart in 1989 on German reunification. From the 1960s and 1970s, nearly all schoolchildren between ages 6 and 14 were organised into Young Pioneer or Thälmann Pioneer groups. The pioneer group was loosely based on Scouting, but organised in such a way as to teach schoolchildren aged 6 – 14 socialist ideology and prepare them for the Freie Deutsche Jugend, the FDJ. Its organisation was similar to Scouting and other such organisations. Afternoons spent at the pioneer group mainly consisted of a mixture of adventure, myth-like socialist teaching and the upkeep of revolutionary traditions.

The famous Red Star radio, Zvezda 54, made in the Soviet Union 1954/55. The radio “Zvezda-54” was first made in Kharkiv “Komunar” Works, (1954) and after modernization in “ZH-68” Works (secret subsidiary MEMZ No. 1 factory, Moscow, CCCP, 1955). The radio cabinet is made of red sprayed metal with a kind of snakeskin pattern. It soon acquired the name “Red Star”. The first owner bought it new in 1954 in Budapest. Later bought by 2nd owner, a radio collector, where it stood still for 17 years on a shelf in his collection. Recently the radio has been fully checked, cleaned and parts replaced where necessary by a radio specialist. The potentiometer, on/off and volume, has been replaced by him, just like the power cable. He has also made the adjustments to let it play over WiFi. The signals come in via the pick-up connection. What makes this radio so special is that it uses the original amplifier and speakers. So 100% the original Red Star sound, but no longer dependent on what is playing on the radio, which is nowadays very limited. It works with a Chromecast, included in the purchase. It can of course also be connected to a telephone, mp3, tablet, etc. with a standard plug. You can adjust the volume on your Tablet, Phone or MP3 player, but you can also use the volume button on the radio itself. The lamps that illuminate the dial and star are original. Free with the purchase is 1 set of cool white and 1 set of warm white LED lamps (set = 2 pieces, 4 in total), which burn slightly brighter. There is also a wiring diagram The Paint, Mirror dial, and Back plate are all original. The Magic eye also still works, so completely fine. However, stains, scratches, dents and damage have occurred over the past 70 years, see photos. The pictures of the amplifier and speakers were taken when they just came back from the radio specialist. Beautiful radio that is not only decorative, but can actually be used all day without restrictions. YouTube film is partially blocked because radio music was playing “The Beatles” and that is not allowed due to copyright, very lame but the whole video can be heard, only the piece of music from The beatles not. Red Star on WiFi! welcome to the 21st century.

Big and stunning picture album about the funeral of Klement Gottwald. It comes in 2 boxes and with 40 sheets of black paper with real photos on it. The inlay of the red box is some kind of red velvet. Luxurious and very rare. The box is from a lawyer who’s grandfather had a high position in the Romanian intelligence service. Written on the outside box is “Romania” in the Czechian language so this box went to Romanian officials. Klement Gottwald (1896-1953) was a Czech communist politician, who was the leader of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia from 1929 until his death in 1953–titled as general secretary until 1945 and as chairman from 1945 to 1953. He was the first leader of Communist Czechoslovakia from 1948 to 1953. He was the 14th prime minister of Czechoslovakia from July 1946 until June 1948, the first Communist to hold the post. In June 1948, he was elected as Czechoslovakia’s first Communist president, four months after the 1948 coup d’état in which his party seized power with the backing of the Soviet Union. He held the post until his death. Gottwald was a long-time alcoholic and suffered from heart disease caused by syphilis that had gone untreated for several years. Shortly after attending Stalin’s funeral on 9 March 1953, one of his arteries burst. He died five days later on 14 March 1953, aged 56. He was the first Czechoslovak president to die in office. Gottwald’s embalmed body was initially displayed in a mausoleum at the site of the Jan Žižka national monument in the district of Žižkov, Prague. In 1962, the personality cult ended and it was no longer deemed appropriate to show Gottwald’s body. There are accounts that in 1962 Gottwald’s body had blackened and was decomposing due to a botched embalming, although other witnesses have disputed this. His body was cremated, the ashes returned to the Žižka Monument and placed in a sarcophagus. After the end of the communist period, Gottwald’s ashes were removed from the Žižka Monument (in 1990) and placed in a common grave at Prague’s Olšany Cemetery, together with the ashes of about 20 other communist leaders which had also originally been placed in the Žižka Monument. The Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia now maintains that common grave.

Keychain with the image of Fidel Castro and on the backside the Cuban flag. Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz (1926-2016) was a Cuban revolutionary, lawyer, and politician who was the leader of Cuba from 1959 to 2008, serving as the prime minister of Cuba from 1959 to 1976 and president from 1976 to 2008. Ideologically a Marxist–Leninist and Cuban nationalist, he also served as the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba from 1961 until 2011. Under his administration, Cuba became a one-party communist state; industry and business were nationalized, and state socialist reforms were implemented throughout society. Castro adopted leftist and anti-imperialist ideas while studying law at the University of Havana. After participating in rebellions against right-wing governments in the Dominican Republic and Colombia, he planned the overthrow of Cuban President Fulgencio Batista, launching a failed attack on the Moncada Barracks in 1953. After a year’s imprisonment, Castro traveled to Mexico where he formed a revolutionary group, the 26th of July Movement, with his brother Raúl Castro and Ernesto “Che” Guevara. Returning to Cuba, Castro took a key role in the Cuban Revolution by leading the Movement in a guerrilla war against Batista’s forces from the Sierra Maestra. After Batista’s overthrow in 1959, Castro assumed military and political power as Cuba’s prime minister. The United States came to oppose Castro’s government and unsuccessfully attempted to remove him by assassination, economic blockade, and counter-revolution, including the Bay of Pigs Invasion of 1961. Countering these threats, Castro aligned with the Soviet Union and allowed the Soviets to place nuclear weapons in Cuba, resulting in the Cuban Missile Crisis.
